About Me, Eric Botkin
Eric Botkin
Everybody Wins
Hello to everyone. My name is Eric Botkin and I have brain cancer. I know that is overwhelming but I want to be honest and share my story with you. At the late age of 30, I was allowed to become a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Riverside Fire Department. I had finally realized my dream and was placed with the best department in town. But then came October of 2007 when I found myself at the doctor for a headache that continued for almost two weeks. After an investigation, a CAT scan , and MRI, it was decided that I had something that needed to be removed. A few weeks later, it was determined that I had glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the worst brain cancer. The physician told me not to make any long-term plans and the I had 2-5 years to live. While I would love to see and spend time with God, I am not excited to leave my family. Since my diagnosis, I have been able to enjoy the best times with my family which has been simply fantastic. During this awesome family time, I has also been retired because of the cancer and have several other issues cause by the five surgeries, including a stroke and memory issues.
